 MITES:

Scott Segar
(Head Coach, Mite A) played high school hockey at Rockville HS from 1987-89.  After high school, he served in the US Army from 1989- 1993, during which time he was fortunate to play for a club team in Heilbronn, Germany.  He attended Southern Connecticut State University and taught physical education for two years at a private school in Wilton, CT.  He has been a police officer since 2001 and currently works for the West Hartford Police Department.  Scott also coached high school basketball for five years at Bunnell High School in Stratford, CT. Last year Scott assisted with the Mini-Mite program.  His goals for the Mite level this season are to stress fun, skill development and teamwork.

Mark Haigh (Head Coach, Mite B)

SQUIRTS:


 Barry Zalcman (Head Coach, Squirt A)  grew up outside Boston, Massachusetts. He has been involved with USA Hockey for the past 25 years including, coaching ECHO teams from Mite to Bantam level, head coach for the Rockville/Manchester United High School Fall team from 2007-2009, on ice instructor for USA Hockey Boys and Girls Festival camps since 2006, is a Level 3 USA Hockey official and currently serves as CHC District 3 Commissioner for USA Hockey.  Barry's teams have been involved in three State Championship games, winning the championship in 2001.   He loves to teach players how to use their skills to the best of their ability.  His goal is to have each player improve one piece of their game while continuing to build long lasting friendships and of course......have fun!!!
 
Tim Olson (Head Coach, Squirt B) grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where he played hockey and baseball for the William J. Palmer High School Terrors.  Tim was the starting goaltender for the Terrors in the 1984 high school state championship game.  He attended the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, where he was a four-year starter for the hockey and baseball teams.  In hockey, the Kings Point Mariners were the 1988 Hudson Division Champions of the Metropolitan Collegiate Hockey Conference, and Tim was named to the Conference All-Star team.  Tim is in his fifth year coaching for the ECHO Stars at the Mini-Mite, Mite, and Squirt levels.  He is committed to teaching teamwork, good sportsmanship, and a love for the game, in addition to those skills needed to succeed at higher levels.


PEEWEES:


Mark McGrath (Head Coach, PeeWee A) A native of Rochester, NY, Mark began playing the game at age 4 and played travel hockey through Bantams, then played three years of high school hockey at Gates-Chili High School, where he served as team captain in his senior year.  Following high school, Mark played four years of Division III college hockey at SUNY-Fredonia in Western New York as a forward for the Fredonia State Blue Devils. A USA Hockey Level III certified coach, Mark has been coaching in the ECHO program since the 2001-2002 season in various roles at the Mini-Mite, Mite, Squirt and now PeeWee levels. He currently serves as the Director of Coach and Player Development on the ECHO Board of Directors.  His coaching philosophy centers around teaching the fundamentals of the game through hard work, preparation, teamwork, and good sportsmanship, with an emphasis on developing both hockey skills and hockey sense and ultimately instilling a love of the game in all of his players.

Ron Williams (Head Coach, PeeWee B) started playing hockey at age 7.  He went on to letter in three sports (basketball, baseball and football) in high school, then went on to college and played Division III baseball and club hockey at ENC in Boston. He started coaching hockey in 2000 for the Enfield instructional program, ran the program for two years, and coached Mite and Squirt teams over the next four years.  Moving to ECHO, Ron coached as an assistant on the Squirt C team, then coached the Squirt C team in 2008. His philosophy is "to teach our kids how to play and respect the great game of hockey, pushing themselves to be the best they can be, individually and as a team, in a fun and challenging environment." Today, he plays hockey in men's league.


BANTAMS:

Mike McCarthy
(Head Coach, Bantam A) A native of Massachusetts, started playing at age 7 in the Greater Springfield Hockey League and continues playing to this day.  He began coaching in the 80's while earning a degree in Education at Westfield State College, running the Holyoke/Chicopee (MA) Learn to Play Hockey Program.  From 2001-2006 he coached at the Instructional, Squirt and PeeWee levels for Columbia Youth Hockey (later the Cyclones), was assistant coach for the 2005-2006 ECHO Squirt B team that won the Division VI State Championship, and was head coach of ECHO's PeeWee B team in 2007-2008.  He has also coached youth soccer, lacrosse, baseball, and softball.  As a coach, Mike enjoys teaching individual skills to kids and watching them progress over the course of a 6-month-long hockey season.   

Sam Rooney (Head Coach, Bantam B) has participated in organized hockey for 17 years, with a number of those years at the Enfield Hockey Association and the Connecticut Clippers. After four years at the Junior B level with the Clippers Organization, he played for the State University of New York, Canton. Sam competed in the National Junior College Championship, reaching the semi finals in 2008. In past seasons, in addition to programs at Bolton, Sam has coached and assisted numerous Mite and Squirt age teams, and involved with the on and off ice operations of hockey camps and clinics throughout Connecticut. Sam enjoys being a role model for youth hockey, a positive quality that has been remarked upon by many parents. Sam is eager to coach our older skaters, to reinforce the fundamentals of the game, while developing both individual and team skills. Ultimately Sam wants to motivate our players to become the best they can be, both on and off the ice.
